“Strong and confident look and feel executed throughout. The purpose and story behind the chosen aesthetic is clear and done very well,” Sara Keywan, Judge

Project: Intercity Hotel

Location: Shenzhen, China

Award: Hospitality Interiors: Hotel & Other Overnight Accommodations, Silver, 2023

Design Practice: Vermilion Zhou Design Group

Client: Deutsche Hospitality

Intercity Hotel’s interiors follow a less is more aesthetic, as proposed by the German modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Offering a fusion of European and Chinese design, the elegant, practical and refined hotel sees guest rooms arranged in zones for washing, rest, entertainment and work. An emphasis on comfort means the design focuses on every detail to provide guests with the ultimate restful experience.

While Intercity Hotel may be aimed at business travellers, the designers have insured the space is sensual and calm. After simplifying and removing unnecessary distractions, the hotel offers every business traveller calm and peace of mind.

Design highlights

Clean lines and minimalistic style offer a sleek and contemporary environment, combined with warm brown tones to create an inviting atmosphere. Despite the minimal palette, interiors have a warmth thanks to the power of the right use of timber and lighting which shows off the carefully detailed joinery and attention to detail.
