Healthy Villages of WuYuan is a part of China’s Healthy Villages project which aims to improve people’s lives through the creation of traditional rural projects. It helps villages to establish industries based on their unique region and cultural characteristics.
In the traditional village of Longwei this involved constructing a Chinese herbal medicine culture museum, and successful integration of heritage buildings with new development.
Residents were involved in the whole museum renovation process, including demolition, construction, training and independent operation of the museum and accompanying restaurant. Historic facades and old columns were preserved while landscaped areas were added and improved.
