Project: Haida Parking Building, Hangzhou
Award: Transport, Silver, 2022
Location: Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China
Architect: UAD
Client: Hangzhou Wenting Project Management Co., LTD
This elegant multi-storey car park in Hangzhou’s Economic and Technological Development Zone, is shaped like a long and narrow triangle. Its striking, bright white façade features perforated panels which keep the space light and airy while preventing the interior from dazzling light, thus improving driving safety. The ground floor of the parking building is elevated giving the car park allowing space for a network of public bicycles below. Based on the design concept of "parking +", a series of well-equipped commercial facilities and open spaces are organized on the ground floor.
Design highlights
Designed to simplify the parking experience, the car park separates those entering and exiting the building. A special spiral ramp is set at one end of the parking area, connecting the horizontal sections at different elevations to form an independent leaving shortcut for a quicker exit. The facades employ prefabricated components which can be assembled quickly and saved costs on construction. When lit up at night, the building’s perforated aluminium sheet skin appears like a hazy veil.
