The One-North district of Singapore is a growing hub of creative and technology based companies which is keen to develop a community within the area. The new development, set against a verdant hill, will offer public and communal spaces for socialising, recreation, and comfortable living spaces for its residents.
Featuring 324 units across two seven-storey blocks which are linked by an inhabited bridge, the building adopts an angular geometry which creates a visual corridor from the Fusionopolis office buildings towards the heritage bungalows at Nepal Hill. The building is located with access to the public transport system on its doorstep, and also provides plentiful bicycle parking for residents.
Throughout the building several energy efficiency and water saving devices are used. In addition a building management system automatically tracks maintenance, electrical and water resources. It has been awarded Singapore’s BCA Green Mark Gold Plus for sustainable design and BCA Universal Design Mark Gold award.
The development also focuses on accessibility with barrier-free paths, accessible washrooms and strong visual cues to better support all residents, including persons with disabilities. High-traffic areas feature automated doors for improved hygiene and convenience.
The structure uses precast concrete throughout with variations in textures on the façades including smooth, ribbed and rough exposed aggregates. The geometry of the design includes sun-shading fins and hoods to keep the building light and playful. This energy continues with large-scale colourful murals indoors and outdoors and terraced green planters which booked the building.
The ground level of the development features cascading greenery, a dynamic red roof canopy and access to public spaces including an amphitheatre. This space can also be used as a public living room for visitors and residents offering space for performances, pop-ups and exhibitions. Covered by the origami-like bridge which connects the two towers, the area remains cool due to the shade provided.
Residents will also have access to a social kitchen with indoor and outdoor dining areas, a central swimming pool, and green communal terraces which provide access to fresh air and greenery.
