Aedas devises concept for innovative G60 Center in Shanghai, China

The project is part of the accelerating regional growth connecting to the G60 Science and Technology Innovation Corridor near the Yangtze River Delta

by Séan Thurgood 25 October 2022

The innovation center will be situated at the starting point of the corridor and serve as a gateway landmark. Aedas’ design for the center will set the benchmark for future developments within the Songjiang District.

Offering connections to the G60 expressway and views of the surrounding suburban landscape, the project will form part of the Lingang Songjiang Science and Technology City.

Over four separate plots totalling 513,762 sq m, the design will utilise Innovation Central Avenue as the central axis with commercial, office, conference, entertainment and hotel elements symmetrically laid out to create a high-end complex.

Plot 10-A1 and 10-B1 will serve as the gateways of the development. This will house the headquarters offices, serviced apartments, a theatre, convention centre, hotel and retail mall of 110,000 sq m. The four towers will be linked by a circular sky bridge which encircles the central access. In addition, four low-rise buildings will be connected by bridges to the east and west sides, encouraging the interconnectivity of the entire development.

The development evokes the imagery of a fluttering butterfly with the four towers at a slight slant to represent its wings. On the centripetal side of the tower is a carved aluminium butterfly outlined in gold, emphasising the motif of the development, and utilising transparent glass panels that glow at night to distinguish itself from the outer curtain wall. x

The other two adjacent plots, 07-02 and 07-05 are set up as a range of office spaces and supporting facilities. The buildings are streamlined with flat glass curtain walls that create a curved illusion. Featuring terraces, ecological public spaces and sunken courtyards on both sides, the end result is a green space that promotes a work-life balance and maintains a pleasant fresh atmosphere.
