The design brief asked for a world-class university campus in the heart of Dongguan, where state-of-the-art R&D facilities will be provided to attract talents from across the world and drive innovation of the entire city.

Situated in an ecological belt of the Songshan Lake District, the new campus sprawls over a wider site area of 137,273 sq m. The 195,000 sq m Phase 1 development comprises large-scale research and teaching facilities, multifunctional spaces, residential areas and amenities.

Inspired by the natural attributes of the site, 10 Design has envisioned a central courtyard that functions as the heart of the campus to foster social interaction and knowledge exchange. A sculptural Social Island anchors the central courtyard while the University’s shared facilities and laboratory spaces unfold around it, providing equal access and visibility to this central activity hub.

The central courtyard is defined by a u-shaped shared ‘street’ colonnade, which provides sheltered connection between the research buildings and dormitories, while also serving as dynamic public communication and autonomous learning spaces.

The design places people and sustainability at the core of the development. By extending the waterscape and greeneries from the adjacent Songshan Lake, campus facilities are fully integrated with the surrounding environment. A truly open and vibrant education and research space is formed.

Completing in 2024, the project will stand as a landmark at the northeast gateway of the University while setting a benchmark of green campus developments.
