NBBJ unveils design for Hana Financial Group’s global HQ

The South Korean development consists of a series of looping public pathways connecting major hubs throughout the building

by Connor Gill 22 December 2021

Terraces and points of interest encourage people to pause and slow down along their journey through the building and employees and visitors can enjoy different vantage points, digital experiences, and interactions with nature. With a green path in the surrounding park, physical exercise is encouraged.

The continuous pathway streaming through the building as an infinite park experience also paints a picture of Hana’s very intentional journey, which seeks to integrate employees on every level and connect with the greater public as the business expands globally.

At the building’s lower-level indoor atrium, a skylight above an interconnecting stair creates a tranquil effect and encourages people to pause and interact by brightening movements between floors. In addition to an abundance of natural lighting, the new headquarters will feature wood as a prominent material, to give a subtle impression of continuity with the surrounding natural environment.

In addition to an abundance of natural lighting, the building will feature wood as a prominent material, to add warmth and give a subtle impression of continuity with the surrounding natural environment. The building’s booths, window-facing platforms, and entrances to collaboration zones are curved and modelled after organic shapes, resulting in calming, restorative spaces.

The floor plans feature a certain number of lounge-type environments that provide opportunities for collaboration. Each floor also features unique settings for individual work, beyond a typical seated desk setup.

The building acts as a departure from office towers that are sealed off from their surroundings, making an effort to invite the public inside. As part of the arrival experience, a sloping plaza transitions from the site landscape into the building’s lower lobby levels, where the public will have access to retail and food and beverage options.

The design of the building’s mid-level space integrates the bright and airy interiors with a subdued colour palette, wood, and terrazzo stone. There is also a financial library. The building’s apex will host various social activities and a nightlife experience and; a transparent glass observation deck highlights the views.
