Mei Architects and Planners complete Rotterdam’s Fenix Lofts

Rotterdam has gained another bold and iconic building of architectural beauty at a location full of history. The former century year old warehouse contains a mixed use programme of more than 6,000m2 of cultural, culinary and commercial functions.

The monumental Fenix warehouse has been replaced; built in 1922, it was an immense steel table structure of approximately one million kilos of steel. A new concrete building, built above with 212 loft apartments, which are compiled and arranged according to the buyers' wishes.

Residents have already moved into their Fenixlofts. The completion of the Fenix is a beautiful milestone in the Katendrecht area development. From having been a disadvantaged area, it has changed to become one of the most popular neighbourhoods. Giving a new impulse to the city.

Fenix has already won awards; after winning the Architectural Review Future project award, Fenix then was nominated for the Rotterdam Architecture Prize 2019.
