Final development for Houston’s Museum of Fine Arts

Georgina Johnston
04 Feb 2020

Houston's new cultural project on the 14 acre Susan and Fayez S. Sarofim Campus

The Kinder Building for modern and contemporary art is the final component of the Museum of Fine Arts.

Inaugurated in 2012, the $450m capital and endowment campaign for campus redevelopment also includes the new Glassell School of Art, designed by Steven Holl Architects and opened in 2018.

The Kinder Building stands in complementary contrast to the existing structures and in dialogue with Isamu Noguchi's 1986 Cullen Sculpture Garden. The glass facade, to be completed April 2020, reduces solar gain, diffuses light to the interior and emits a glow at night.
