Glazed tower sparkles in Manhattan
A new, glazed apartment block is rising above the busy New York skyline to offer unobstructed river and city views. Seaport Residences soars 60 stories above the waterfront in the Seaport District of Lower Manhattan and is nearing completion.
Hill West has designed around 100 light-filled residences sheathed in an all-glass tower - billed as the first condominium project in the most historic neighborhood in the city. The design aimed to embody the essence of living on the water by day or by night: four types of glass on the building exterior mimic the sparkle and drama of the water and reflect the sky.
By night, Seaport Residences illuminates the skyline with linear light spears wrapping the top like a modern residential lighthouse in the city port.
Sculptural tower brings light into Manhattan interiors
The sculptured, cantilevered design of Manhattan’s new ARO tower features a distinctive white metal grid framing the glass tower.
Designed by CetraRuddy Architecture for developer Algin Management, the 62-storey tower features a cantilevered design of fluid twists and curves.
Its striking form accentuates transparency and light, responding to its surroundings with a distinctive white metal grid projecting from its sculptural glass form.
SOM unveils 550m bifurcated tower
Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) the skyscraper will be one of the tallest buildings in the world.
Its unique bifurcated shape emerged from SOM’s New York office where the team integrated high-performance architectural and structural design into a singular expression.
The tower’s flowing design emulates the regional dunes and oases of the United Arab Emirates, while its spherical observation deck is evocative of the native gulf pearl.
First phase will be completed in 2023 to become a new focal point on the Dubai skyline and the Jumeirah neighborhood.
Upper stories will feature world-class dining, active programming and multiple observation decks with 360 degree views of Dubai.
Capable of enduring wind speeds of 180km/s and 6.8 Richter scale earthquakes, the Statue of Unity is the World’s tallest statue at 182m.
The project's objective was to create a memorial to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel to remind people of India's freedom struggle and to inspire them to inculcate Sardar's visionary ideologies of unity, patriotism, inclusive growth and good governance.
The statue is a naturalistic depiction of Sardar Patel and rises out of a star-shaped, geometric base that covers Sadhu Hill. Its steel frames are cladded in about 6,500 bronze panels which are supported by vertical cores.
Visitors can enter the viewing gallery at the 135m level - at the chest - and receive a breathtaking view of the damn and the surrounding environment. The gallery can accommodate up to 200 visitors. Within 5 months, the statue received over 1.5 million visitors, which speaks volumes about the project.
Tower anchors major AS+GG masterplan
The competition-winning design is for the Shimao Shenzhen Longgang Master Plan and the associated tower, Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center.
It is envisioned the skyscraper will be one of the tallest towers in the world, at approximately 700 meters, and will serve as a symbolic icon for the new district.
Set between the foothills of Longcheng Park and the Dayun National Park, the site is adjacent to several major sporting venues.
The environmental goal for the Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Center and the surrounding landscape is to obtain LEED Platinum certification, therefore sustainability is considered in a holistic way: high-performance glass will be used to reduce heat gain.
The practice was selected as one of the two finalists in an international competition for designing the tower in Fuzhou, China. As one of the tallest buildings currently under development in China, the tower integrates architecture design with structural optimization, cultural harmony and environmental sensitivity.
Located at a prominent riverfront site, Shimao North Riverfront Tower will become a dramatic centerpiece of the new business district and explores sensible approaches to supertall building. A key feature of the tower design is the introduction of two intertwining and twisting volumes, gently tapering towards the top, creating a dynamic and futuristic sculptural form.
The tower’s elegant tapered form is inspired by natural surroundings of the site, such as the rolling hill topography and flowing watercourse. In contrast to many form-driven towers however, Shimao Fuzhou Tower aims to integrate the architectural concept with structure optimization, while creating an iconic and futuristic landmark with efficiency and contextual sensibility.
