Tirana Mixed Use Building - Mario Cucinella Architects is a residential and mixed-use building in the heart of Tirana, Albania. Turning urban planning constraints into an opportunity to experiment with ‘excavated’ architecture, the building form is made up of a series of varying volumes and materials, resulting in an elegant spiraling exterior. They give the building a very organic image, redefining the paradigm of compact and massive monumentality that characterizes the residential and specialist high-density building recently built in the center of Tirana.
Located in Rotterdam's city center, this historically important building stands as a testament to the inextinguishable spirit of Rotterdam. Built in 1916, it was one of the only original structures still standing after Rotterdam Blitz, the aerial bombardment that in 1940 leveled nearly all of the city’s historic core. The new POST Rotterdam - ODA New York tower will rise towards the rear of the Postkantoor and straddle the existing open courtyard at the Rodezand wing. The vaulted plinth of the tower will greatly enhance the experience of the courtyard, coupling it with the Great Hall of the Postkantoor.
Hengqing is one of the fastest growing cities in China. The new Hengqin Culture & Art Complex - SZAD/Atelier Aperion/Yunchao Xu mixed-use Civic Center, which is going to be built in the next four years. The site is limited between crowded housing area and an open park, and instead of putting nine programs into a solid building, the designers adopt a strategy to create an “void” for the high-density urban context, while integrating various programs into one complex and interweaving energetic lives together.
UNStudio's design proposal aims to establish a new destination for Melbourne. The proposal is integrally organised by a ‘Green Spine’ of vertically networked platforms, terraces and verandas. As a result, the Southbank by Beulah - UNStudio / COX Architecture towers that emerge on either side can enjoy porous city views and vastly improved contextual links, whilst the residences, offices and the hotel benefit from increased daylight and access to outdoor spaces. In addition to being fully integrated within the existing Melbourne network, the design further proposes a mixed-use building that is a city in itself.
Sea Urchin - Osamu Morishita Architect and Associates is a research and production complex where the client, J.S.T.MFG CO.LTD, will conceive and produce small electronic connectors for machines or computers. This complex aims above all to be a place propitious for creation, a suitable facility for both arduous research and productive brainstorming in groups. The designers organized this dome’s inner activities into different circular architectural entities: to suit the functioning of the company.
Yanghe is an international company with headquarters in Nanjing for production of spirits. As Yanghe’s name suggests, it’s all about water and how people make the most of water wisely, it was the main design concept for The Wave - Yanghe Headquarters - CROX. Yanghe Headquarters reshaped a new form of urban complex that combines office, life, business, sports, and exhibitions. It is covered with an endless outer skin to achieve a stream-lined appearance, which will become a new landmark in the future.
