Orange, yellow, green: the colours of a healthy childhood

Comfortable environments promote healthy living and learning, these entries demonstrate how these environments have been created through colourful buildings.

Nowadays, the city of Tehran is hosting a very interesting inner-city migration pattern, and converting an old house into a gallery is such an example of this. The Nabshi Gallery - ZAV Architects is an old building structure where the overall construction is very much informed by masonry techniques. The color blue is present on every surface to emphasise continuity and the  boundlessness of the gallery.

Urbanest - Allen Jack + Cottier  Darling Square One+Two is a student housing community made up of two towers, between the old warehouse district of Ultimo and the new Darling Square precinct and Sydney Harbour to the east. The buildings form a transition between these adjacent precincts and drew inspiration from them. The vision was a place for young people that is fun, and fosters learning, creativity and friendship. The residents will be living away from their family, thus warm, natural tones are used in the bedrooms to create a home-like feel while a lively, colourful palette is used in the common areas.

Cutting a bold figure of orange, melon yellow and its exterior titanium-zinc plate, ONE PARK TAIPEI - YUAN LIH CONSTRUCTION CO.,LTD stands tall in the center of Taipei, breathing new life into the cityscape. Acting as pavilions in the landscape, the design has set a new benchmark in high-rise residential projects in Taiwan, in terms of location, views and aspect, spatial quality, landscape design and public amenities.

The Wujun Kindergarten - Tus-Design Group Co., Ltd  is the first kindergarten in the Wujun District area. The design was inspired by a group of works by the famous British contemporary artist Howard Hodgkin. As a result, the colour block was a theme throughout, yellow, orange and green are the main impressions of kindergarten entrance. Because the colour blocks use different shades of the same colour system, there are different levels of regional collocation,so the colour effect is particularly rich, but not messy.

The World Architecture News Awards showcase the best international design in both current and future projects. All 2019 entries can be seen here.
