New hotels: breathtaking designs

With inspiration close to home, these picturesque hotels demonstrate how their location has influenced their designs.

Garden Cruise on the Putting Greens - Golf Hotel - Studio A+ is situated in Phoenix City, Sanya; a popular vacation destination known as ‘the Hawaii of China’. The design strategy aims to create an experience that is visually light-weighted and spiritually light-hearted. Sitting on a hilly site with mountainous backdrop and golf court in the front, the building nestles into the existing topography, recalling the image of a cruise ship berthing in a harbor.

The Tall and slender hi-rises of Cloudscape - Form4 Architecture offer the opportunity to soar, literally “in the clouds”. They give an urban skyline its character, and in a sense, they form a cultural symbol of a city. The design for this building takes the abstracted form of cumulus clouds as its symbolic reference. A reference to the natural world, to the fog and mist that permeate the city of San Francisco and the cloud computing technology that is fueling unprecedented global change. In Cloudscape you find a spot to acquire perspective, ready to make a creative mark in the sky.

Located on a sloping half-hill of Samui Island, Thailand, Thailand Samui Butterfly Villa - GWP Architects has a 180-degree sea view and covers an area of 6561.3 square metres. The architectural form of the project resembles the dynamic motion of the unique butterfly of Samui island. The buildings mimic the butterfly resting and waving its wings by twisting freely along the mountain and adapting to each other. Considering the landscape vision and privacy between the villas, 270-degree wide-angle lighting is achieved while the villas are cleverly blocked with themselves and keep with the view, at the same time, the landscape is widened, bringing unique vision to each building.

In the overlapping fields, nature is the only role, but hiding in the scattered terraced landscape seems to be the most elegant symbiosis of architecture. Cliff Hotel of XiaoZhou Mountain - GWP Architects, Lishui, China, demonstrates the integration of a hotel with the terrace fields by innovative architectural form. Following the fluent natural rhythm of the fields, the winding landscape walkway provides viewing points from different angles, enabling both the incredible views, and innovative architecture to be experienced.
