Xavier - Amsterdam Zuidas - KENK architecten BV is an entry in the Residential category at the 2019 World Architecture News Awards.

The Xavier residential complex is in the heart of the Amsterdam Zuidas business district. A unique characteristic of the urban development plan of this part of the city is that the various towers have been envisioned as separate "urban palaces". In Lot 4, the 22-storey Xavier residential tower, together with two 7-storey urban villas, form a U-shaped block with an opening oriented to the south. This creates a unique small-scale courtyard at ground level and a particularly pleasant living environment in this office-dominated district.

The apartments, with flexibly arranged floor plans, are becoming larger upwards, ranging from 60 m2 on the lower floors up to a 315 m2 penthouse in the crown. The stacking of varied housing types is made legible in the façade by 4 rings of surrounding balconies. This gives the tower a special articulation and a recognizable, iconic appearance, both from nearby and from the distant Amsterdam ring road. This articulation also ensures that the building has a recognizable identity for the residents. The facade scheme of the repetitive windows, the expressive balconies and the gray-tinted brick give Xavier a refined and also sturdy, metropolitan appearance. The building explicitly claims its place among the impressive office buildings and yet stands out as a genuine residential building.
