These innovative entries reflect the importance of a building’s facade

The Wynwood Garage Facade is a permanent architectural facade for a new 8-story mixed-use and parking garage in Miami, Florida, USA.  As a high profile presence for local urban renewal, the new facade merges optical layering that progressively syncs with its street art context.  The Wynwood Arts District is the creative arts hub of Miami.

The city of Tehran’s contemporary urban fabric is influenced by a zoning bylaw that defines the size of buildings.  In line with Iranian architectural traditions, ZAV Architects have developed The Avan 2.0; an architectural construct that reconfigures the threshold between the interior and exterior of the building in to a volumetric space. The curvature of Avan in section, is mirrored vertically, to create a better dialogue with the stacking of the floor plans.

Elwick Place is a major new leisure complex in Ashford designed to cultivate a greater sense of community and contribute to the town’s wider regeneration. The project includes the first new build cinema in the UK for Picturehouse with 1,000 seats and six-screens, as well as cafes, restaurants, and a new public square to create a new destination at the heart of Ashford. A strong lighting concept has been developed to give the project façade a dramatic presence in keeping with the part it will play in the town’s night time economy. The mesh reflects light to create a subtly changing and opaque façade by day. After dusk it becomes a transparent gauze, illuminated by uplighters within.
