The Site Museum of Loushanguan Battle - TONGJI ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN (Group) Co., Ltd. is an entry in the Civic category at the 2019 World Architecture News Awards.

The new-built Site Museum of Loushanguan Battle traces back the historical memories and present the poetic place in an architectural way. The exhibition hall covers an area of 9000 square meters with a total building area of 6056 square meters. The building is located at the gateway to the relics in the mountains,It is not only an independent exhibition hall, but also the way leading to the Loushanguan ruins spot in the mountain. Surrounded by mountains, almost all the building volume is buried underground, merging into the undulating hills of the natural environment, creating about 2500 Sq m exhibition space with the preface lobby of 7m clearance height.

The design concept of The Site Museum of Loushanguan Battle draws on conceptual art ideas, explores the possibility and logic of interpreting historical events with minimalist and abstract architectural vocabulary, and respects the natural attributes of the site.

The main function of the building is placed underground, with two curved surfaces——vertical retaining wall and horizontal ramps, forming a set of exhibition spaces around the sunken courtyards.
Through the "rigid" intersection between the initial texture of the material and the volume, the building expresses the hardships and cruelty of warfare, and creating a literary mood.

Architectural details continue the principles of abstract construction, drawing on local traditional materials and construction methods.

The World Architecture News Awards showcase the best international design in both current and future projects. All 2019 entries can be seen here.
