Viewing Platform of Nujiang(Salween River) 72-turnings Canyon in Basu,Tibet - ARCH-HERMIT is an entry in the Future Projects: Leisure category at the 2019 World Architecture News Awards.

The project is located in Basu, Changdu, Tibet, about 48.5 kilometers from Basu County Town. "Nujiang(Salween River) 72-turnings" is also known as "72-turnings of sky road", which is the only way(G318)on the southern Sichuan-Tibet line. It is well-known for its dangerous roads in the world. The viewing platform is situated on the edge of a cliff between the 72-turnings and the Nujiang Gorge. National Highway 318 winding across the north and the Nujiang rolling to the south.

The design of the viewing platform strives to bring the risk of the 72-turnings into full play, to seek danger in danger, to challenge oneself, and to build a benchmark for tourism experience in Plateau areas. In order to reflect the rapid development of construction industry, the expansion of life and entertainment, and the inheritance and continuation of regional culture in Tibet. The whole project is based on the weathering steel, 72-turnings turntables and folding road alignment as the design elements. On the cliff of Nujiang Canyon with a drop of more than 100 meters, a creative glass viewing platform is designed.

The platform is cantilevered 27 meters outward and the ground is covered with transparent glass. The self-driving crowd passing through this area can experience the magnificent wildness of Nujiang Canyon.

The World Architecture News Awards showcase the best international design in both current and future projects. All 2019 entries can be seen here.
