Zip by Premier Inn is a new ‘no frills’ offer from the hotel chain. Designed by PriestmanGoode, who specialise in maximising small spaces, the brief was to create a brilliantly designed environment, offering guests all the basics with a good quality of finish, at a budget friendly price.
The Zip rooms are a compact 8.5 sqm, but expertly designed to be intuitive to use. The idea was to focus the design on meeting customers’ most important needs: a comfortable and relaxing place to rest, and a practical space to get ready. PriestmanGoode’s design process always starts from the point of view of the user - whether the end customer or staff. The Zip rooms are designed to be perfectly adapted to traveller needs, as well as to enable staff to clean and maintain the rooms efficiently.
The flexible rooms include two single beds that can be used in various combinations: two single beds, one single bed and one sofa, or combined to create a double bed. A high shelf provides ample storage space out of the way, while a padded section around the walls at waist height provides warm wood lighting and helps protect the walls from damage. Power sockets and USB points are easily accessible. The rooms each come with en-suite bathrooms, as well as a window or a lightbox, which mimics the times of day.
The first Zip hotel opened with 138 rooms in March 2019.
