Challenges met and managed in this collection of commercial award entries

The new Headquarters of Magyar Telekom and T-Systems Hungary from TIBA Architects covers nearly 105,000 square meters and is located at the gateway to the city centre from the international airport, in Budapest. With nine floors of contemporary office spaces and more than 4,000 workstations, the headquarters building is referred to as "the workplace of the future". Aside from the office space, there are two restaurants, two cafés, and a conference center that can hold up to 300 people with a fitness and wellness centre that has an outdoor 200 meter running track on top.

Geedesign’s Summit Condo Sales center hosts an art exhibition in the courtyard, while the large overhangs of the building, the shape of a transparent glass box, and the spiral staircase inside, altogether make the building look like an art museum. Different from the half-open structure of the first courtyard, the completely enclosed structure of the second courtyard creates an atmosphere with a sense of privacy.

Barrack Place from Architectus is an 18-storey A-Grade commercial building located in the Central Sydney heritage warehouse quarter typified by masonry buildings. The elegant glazed tower form is articulated as four independent tower volumes and rises above a robust brick podium which occupies the entire site. The contemporary dry-pressed face brick aligns with the parapet and materiality of adjoining buildings, adding to the rich and textured environment expressed in the precinct’s history.

Design of Complementary Building in Taizhou Qin Lake Scenic Area from Shanghai Tongyuan Architecture Design Co.,Ltd.  The challenge of the transformation turned out to be how to unify the new content with the current situation; and consider how to create a main entrance area in a limited space for display. Working within the limited scope for transformation and keeping costs down, the architect removed the original outer skin of the building and redesigned the building’s facade on the west side with a wind curtain wall.
