In 2017, The Crown Estate relocated its head office to its new St James’s Market development in the heart of the company’s central London portfolio. By bringing its headquarters to St James’s Market, The Crown Estate wanted to showcase the quality of its buildings and its investment in the broader St James’s area, it was also an opportunity for the company to deliver fundamental change to working practices.
The Crown Estate’s purpose – brilliant places through conscious commercialism – was embedded in to the design approach, meaning that futureproofing, durability and long-term focus were woven throughout. What really set The Crown Estate apart was its focus on transforming its working practice and prioritising wellbeing, and so achieving the highest certifications for health, wellbeing and sustainability were important ambitions in the brief.
Edge was commissioned to deliver The Crown Estate’s vision and objectives, and enable its headquarters to become a strategic tool that could help transform the business. The project aimed to be an example of best-in-class productivity, effectiveness and value. The project size is 3264 sq m.
Edge helped to create a new workplace for The Crown Estate which has future-proofed its business, not just by giving it the space to adapt to the way in which the business may evolve in the future, but by embedding agile working practices. The Crown Estate’s HQ is the first office in Europe to achieve WELL Platinum Certification and post-occupancy data shows that the new workspace is loved by the client and its people.
