A foyer leads into a comfortable living room. The nearby library is fitted with custom open shelving dotted with books and curios. With a mudroom, butler’s pantry, and powder room, the atmosphere is that of a fine home. In fact, the elegant space in a high-rise office tower is the new Boston headquarters of an investment firm.
The residential feel is deliberate. Designers created a modern and functional office with the workstations, conference rooms, private offices, and amenities you would expect to find at a workplace—all with the look and feel of a well-appointed urban home.
Every detail of the office’s architecture and interior design also contributes to the residential character. Ceilings were refined with coffers, wood panels, and articulated beams. Throughout the headquarters, a palette of blues, black, dark and light grays, wood tones, and touches of brass lends elegance. The furniture is an eclectic mix of classic shapes and custom pieces, along with accents such as chandeliers with blue-glass shades. Even such de rigueur office tools as writeable surfaces have been given a makeover: rather than whiteboards, here they consist of custom-colored glass boards surrounded by oversized wood frames.
The result is an environment that boasts all the comforts of home, but one that clearly means business.
