Coda – Multiexperential Office Space - Portman Architects is an entry in the Commercial category at the 2019 World Architecture News Awards.

Coda, a 780,000sf Multi-Experiential office project located in Georgia Tech’s Technology Square represents an alignment of institutional goals with societal and business objectives. The complex, which includes a high-performance computing center, two high-rise towers, the adaptive re-use of a historic neighborhood building and an open public plaza, is designed to promote interaction between different audiences of people with different backgrounds and different expertise with the common goal of sparking innovation and discovering new approaches to real-world problem solving.

Education takes on new immediacy, advancing from the exploration of theory to actively responding to critical real-life needs. Business enterprises gain unprecedented access to multi-disciplinary research and data modeling to streamline the launch of new products and commercialization of ideas. The whole world benefits from the catalytic effect of different schools of thought coming at problems from various vantage points to create win-win solutions.

While Georgia Tech will be the complex’s anchor tenant, as a new model for the “research to commercial path,” Coda will serve as a beacon for the city of Atlanta, attracting the leading technology talent. Professionals anxious to work with pioneering companies, supported by an engaged student base, fueled by inquisitive researchers and innovative professors will flock to the city.

The complex, with its MultiExperential design, programmed around high-performance computing (HPC) modeling, simulation and a sustainable innovation ecosystem that integrates the existing assets of Technology Square with new opportunities in interdisciplinary research, commercialization and sustainability, becomes a desirable address for the world’s lead
