2019 WAN Awards Future Project categories: alive with enticing imaginative visions

Nansong Lake High-Tech Ecological Park  in Kunshan from Integrated Planning and Design Pty Ltd is an entry in the Future Projects - Urban Design category.  It reflects a typical urban model of a city facing rapid expansion due to a burgeoning manufacture industry. The plan deals with the challenges the city faces including the shrinking and fragmentation of green spaces and ecosystems; water and air pollution; and the physical and mental issues which arise due to a lack of green spaces.

In the Future Projects - Civic category, the Hengqin Culture & Art Complex from SZAD/Atelier Yunchao Xu will sit in one of the fastest growing cities in China. The new mixed-use Civic Center will be built in the next four years on a site limited between crowded housing area and an open park. The main public space at the lower level is composed by three giant arch caves coated by wood and bamboo panels, to create a transparent and open living room for urban life. Each arch has a unique character to create a specific atmosphere. Dayjust Scenic Hill is an entry in the Future Projects - Commercial category.  The project is a complex of architectural space with the theme of human settlement, recreational and sports activities and health care. It incorporates the modern healthy living concepts of ecological habitat, life technology, digital treatment, health care services, cultural activities, presenting a healthy living and living environment of a modern urban space in Guiyang. It is committed to becoming the first spiritual and ecological homeland in China.

The Golden Cage from John Marx / Form4 Architecture is an entry in the Future Project - Civic category.  The rich and lyrical symbolism of Metamorphoses is the theme for this Burning Man base pavilion design. It suggests an experience symbolizing the nature of transformation, following a path of mystery and ambiguity. Five concepts are interwoven to create the central structure, loosely based on Ovid’s tales from 8 AD.

The World Architecture News Awards showcase the best international design in both current and future projects. Entries for the 2019 Awards are now open - for further information and to submit your entry please click here.
