Jahra Medical City - Pace | Architecture, Engineering + Planning is an entry in the Healthcare category at the 2019 World Architecture News Awards.

The Jahra Medical City opened its doors in July 2018, as one of the largest healthcare projects in the Middle East. Pace was commissioned to design and deliver the new internationally standardised medical complex to support the rapid growth of the north of Kuwait. The Medical City provides 1234 beds and includes a full range of services, as well as functioning as a trauma centre for the Jahra district.

The layout of the medical complex comprises of eight separate buildings, most predominantly, a main hospital building, which has a total built-up area of 426,000sqm, and rises up to 15 storeys. Unlike many hospitals, the main components are not all clustered in one zone of the building.

The architectural design process commenced with a concept based on the introduction of the external elements of nature to the internal environment. The purpose of this is to create harmony within the facilities, as a means of contributing to the treatment and healing of the patients. Green parks and interior spaces play an active part in strengthening this direction of design, so as to create an atmosphere full of life across the spaces.
