Sense Café Beijing - RSAA/ Büro Ziyu Zhuang is an entry in the Adaptive Reuse category at the 2019 World Architecture News Awards.

The overall design of the courtyard is treated as a metaphor of the whole urban space. RSAA/ Büro Ziyu Zhuang attemptted to reshape the city of Beijing by exploring the relationship between coffee and the city in the project. It is expected to fill the ancient city of Beijing with the aroma of coffee.

The design breaks through a series of boundaries of the ancient city, leading people through the streets of the city and into a series of images interwoven with ancient impressions and Contemporary Perceptions. Just as coffee gives people different levels of sensory experience, through the drinks, we can have a constant dialogue with the city to create a unique perception.

Inside the square courtyards, the image of mobility create cavities and a series of soft spaces through metal curtains, which can be seen as the boundary relationships of the ancient city. They collide with the original courtyard, inviting people to join the city's conversation with coffee, savoring Beijing's past and future.Coffee can tell historical and cultural stories, so do the cafe.

The World Architecture News Awards showcase the best international design in both current and future projects. Entries for the 2019 Awards are now open - for further information and to submit your entry please click here.
