2019 WIN Awards: Wuguan Books - Chu Chih-Kang Culture Co. Ltd

Wuguan Books - Chu Chih-Kang Culture Co. Ltd is an entry in the Independent shops or small chains category at the 2019 World Interiors News Awards.

Stepping into Wuguan Books is like entering a space where you say goodbye to the world you live temporarily. Here all baggage that identifies your social images can be unloaded from the shoulders, so that you can walk forward with the soul only.  It is all about soul reading.

Entering the space, one will find books are floating in the air, while the spatial boundary and the faces of other readers are hidden in the dark. Only faint outlines are visible. Within such unrestrained environment, people can calm down, relax and be themselves, and find the books they really want to read. It’s all about the reader.

Under dotted spotlights, people can pick up and read the books without worrying about others' eyes, and also concentrate on reading without being disturbed. With book covers on nearly 400 bookshelves facing outward, the display allows books themselves to recount their personality and story to the visitors.

Elaborately-designed lighting only illuminates the books and creates an illusion of books floating in the air. A long table can be found in the bookstore that offers ample lighting to visitors who prefer to spend more time reading their books in detail. The carpeted floor absorbs echoes and sound of footsteps. With lighting concentrating on books and other objects, visitors won’t notice the presence of other people in the store. In short, the design allows for less human interaction, and more book action.

The World Interiors News Awards showcase the best international design in both current and future projects. Entries for the 2019 Awards are now open - for further information and to submit your entry please click here.
