Hans’ Bar & Grill is a new neighbourhood restaurant located within the iconic 11 Cadogan Gardens Hotel in Chelsea’s Pavilion Road, conceived of by the team behind Chewton Glen, Lygon Arms and Cliveden.
The restaurant was named in honour of Cadogan family ascendant Sir Hans Sloane, one-time physician to the royal family and President of The Royal Society, and is made up of a café-bar and extended restaurant, including a wine display area and newly-covered former courtyard space.Nestled amongst the artisanal shops of the new Pavilion Road development, the restaurant offers comfortable, all-day dining for hotel guests, destination visitors and passing trade.
Located within a former mews garage and courtyard, a key challenge was to transform the space into a series of distinct and subtly-different areas. New shopfronts on Pavilion Road lead directly into a café-bar space, whilst the former outdoor courtyard is now covered and forms the main part of the restaurant. A rear section includes a separate entrance for hotel guests, with a further dining space that can be separated off for private hire.
Upon entry, the café-bar space has a clean, contemporary feel with a monochrome colourway, along with interesting, textured finishes. Cadogan family portraits line the exposed, yellow-stock brick wall and pays homage to the restaurant’s namesake. The main area has a contemporary classic feel, with traditional wood panelling to the walls, plus skirting and a dado rail, as well as restored fireplaces, that link it in feel to the overall hotel.
