Kava & Chai - 4SPACE Design is an entry in the Bars, restaurants, clubs and cafés category at the 2019 World Interiors News Awards.

Kava & Chai is a homegrown specialty coffeehouse that projects Arab culture and traditions surrounding tea and coffee in a positive and intimate way. The client wanted to re-brand the interior design for their new locations but still keeping the identity and the soul of the brand.

This 376 sq.ft specialty coffee shop is located at Mall of the Emirates in a very prime location with expected high traffic demands. And because designing a very tight space is a big challenge, the architect considered parametric design in generating the overall concept.

The focal point of the design are the tubes installation and globe lights. It has a bold elements that creates a ceiling statement. The whole inspiration came from the Arabica tree and clusters of coffee beans. To add a layer of graphic element, a leaf pattern that promotes the Branding identity was laid.

Creating this inviting space gives a clearer picture of color palettes taking on a distinctly edgier tone. Teals are warming up spaces across the interior design industry together with the customized globe lights that emits a natural glow.

The modern Terrazzo with inlays of Kava & Chai icons, coffee beans and tea leaf, are presented on the table top. While on the floor, Palladiana terrazzo - a type of mosaic finish incorporating the use of large marble slabs, was used.

4SPACE created a successful narrative from the brands’ history and turned an empty space into a more productive and instagrammable worthy place. It was completed March 2019.
