Apple opens Bangkok store

Apple has opened its first store in Thailand, with a Foster + Partners’ designed glazed pavilion in central Bangkok. The Apple Iconsiam store is connected to the new Iconsiam Center, a major mixed use development with shopping malls, hotels and apartments, and sits above the city’s Chao Phraya River.

The store’s pavilion has clean, trapezoidal design lines and two expansive glass facades. These give the store an open, airy atmosphere and blur the boundaries between interior and exterior, while allowing panoramic city views.

Fronting the store is a roof terrace, with seating areas and landscaping. Inside, the store has a forum, avenues where products are on display and a tree-lined genius grove for technical support.

The project is the result of close collaboration between Apple, led by chief design officer Sir Jonathan Ive and senior vice president of retail and online stores Angela Ahrendts, and Foster + Partners through its local entitity F&P (Thailand) and A49.
