Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Marina Bay skyline, the annual Archifest organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) kicked off its 2018 edition with a bustling opening party at its Festival Pavilion. Situated at the Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza, festival partners and industry professionals turned up to pledge their support to this year’s theme, “Design for Life”. From today till 10 October, the annual festival which celebrates architecture and the built environment will be offering over 50 events that range from architectural tours and workshops, to symposiums and exhibitions.
As part of the Pavilion, members of the public will be able to contribute to the Walls of Connection – a public initiative that invites visitors to pay a minimum donation fee of $5 in exchange for Akzonobel’s easy-to-use Dulux Colour PlayTM? Tester, and to paint the bricks of a mural wall created as a visual representation of the iconic and well-loved Rochor Centre. Proceeds of the donation goes towards the Singapore Red Cross Society.
Kite Studio Architecture was also acknowledged for their winning design for this year’s Pavilion open call. Responding to the theme “Design for Life”, Kite Studio Architecture brought to life Singapore’s ubiquitous public housing void deck in the heart of the city. Prizes were also given to the runners-up DP Architects and Super Assembly. The Pavilion will function as the festival’s anchor event space for numerous programmes that will take place over the next two weeks.
Archifest 2018 runs from 28 September to 10 October 2018. Visit www.archifest.sg to register.
