C.F. Moller’s design was selected by our experienced jury panel, who reviewed the shortlist of six entries in detail before finalising their winner. This year’s exclusive jury were: Dieter Brell, Designer, Head of Architecture & Interior Design at 3deluxe, Justin Laskin, Associate Partner at Pollard Thomas Edwards, Anthony Summers, Projects Director at Ian Ritchie Architects Ltd. and Jerome Berteloot, Project Architect at Ian Ritchie Architects Ltd.
The judges celebrated the winning design for its commanding presence and geometric detailing, along with its ability to make an infrastructure project striking.
“The geometry inside is nice and the design is very good. I like it very much and I think it’s iconic. They’ve really put a lot of work into this. This is my favourite.” Dieter Brell
“The actual geometry is very interesting, the fact that it is on an angle and with the play between transparency and mass for me, works very well. I quite like the slight messiness of the whole thing. I think a big part of it is that the design takes into account about the traffic that passes and the variation of the light when you drive past it. I think that they’ve got the scale right at every level, as an object in the urban context and as soon as you are a bit further away, it starts to really come together.” Jerome Berteloot
“It is always tricky to make infrastructure beautiful, it is interesting.” Justin Laskin
“Despite a difficult site, the designer managed to turn a piece of industrial infrastructure into poetry.” Anthony Summers
We’d like to take the opportunity to thank not only the jury, but all who entered their projects into this year’s WAN Metal in Architecture Award 2017. Congratulations once again to C.F. Moller Architects.
