The incredible Half-Tree House by Jacobschang Architecture wins the WAN Small Spaces - Permanent Award 2017

We are thrilled to congratulate Jacobschang Architecture, winners of the WAN Small Spaces - Permanent Award 2017 with their stunning design of the Half-Tree House.

Carefully judged by a panel of expert judges, the winning project was selected from the six shortlisted projects. This year’s panel included: Russ Edwards, Design Director at Pocket Living, Nils Johan Mansåker, Managing Director, Design Leader and Co-Owner of Fortunen Architects, Adam Tither, Director at EPR Architects, and Jonathan Manser, CEO of The Manser Practice. The judges felt the scheme was imaginative and gave inspiring experiences to the visitor.

Jury Quotes

“A very exciting space is created amongst the vertical tree trunks. The methodic approach of making this as a very low cost project with minimum of footprint brings even more strength to it.” Nils Johan Mansåker

“It’s so delicately done. In one of the photos in the presentation, the building actually looks like a fallen tree. The way it is supported on a tree is incredibly innovative. Very sensitive and it’s been done on a modest budget. They’ve really used their surroundings. It’s honest. The choices they made are excellent.” Adam Tither

“It’s construction methodology is faultless. It would be an incredible place to be in.” Russ Edwards

We’d like to take the opportunity to thank the jury, and all who entered their projects into this year’s WAN Small Spaces - Permanent Award 2017.
