The Brickworks Centre by GOLDEN is a multi-purpose site that marries sales and marketing office, function space and display suite for one of Australia’s most exciting regeneration projects.

Located in Melbourne’s east, the project by Frasers Property Group will transform the historic Burwood Brickworks site into a new community, comprising retail centre, parklands, civic plaza and private residences.

With development taking place over the next ten years, GOLDEN were tasked with designing a space that balanced robust and durable materials with the warmth of home, reflecting the project’s desired positioning as the new heart of Burwood.

Alongside its role as a display suite for the residential development, the Brickworks Centre is a permanent home for the sales and marketing team, and will also host private functions.

In anticipating high foot traffic, GOLDEN were inspired by Italian architect Carlo Scarpa and his signature textured paving in large, geometric forms – a fitting resolution that meets both pragmatic and aesthetic needs, whilst also referencing the site’s past.

This sense of strength and endurance is further enhanced by a monolithic stone slab that acts as sales counter, offset by a careful selection of furniture and lighting.

To inject a sense of warm tactility, natural oak was employed to dramatic effect in bespoke joinery and veneer that lines the walls. Housing the residential materials and finishes selection, as well as marketing collateral, this custom detail further enhances the sense of home, as does a special curation of objet d’art.
