Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) is receiving increased inward investment as a number of high profile projects get underway across the country

The groundbreaking ceremony for Yoma Central has been held by Yoma Strategic Holdings Ltd in downtown Yangon in Myanmar.

Yoma Central, designed by Balmond Studio, will be a striking mixed-use development when it completes in 2021. The ambitious project is a collaboration between Yoma Strategic and its partners: Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels Ltd., Mitsubishi Corporation, Mitsubishi Estate Co. Ltd., the International Finance Corporation, the Asian Development Bank and First Myanmar Investment Company Ltd.

Located on a 10 acre site, Yoma Central features luxury residences branded as Peninsula, two Grade A office towers, a business hotel and serviced apartments seamlessly connected by a retail podium.

The site is anchored by the historic headquarters of the Burma Railway Company which will be restored into The Peninsula Yangon.

Balmond Studio’s design displays considerable amounts of tension and contrast.

It combines the colonial and the urban, the classic and the modern, the past and the future, in a single, dynamic architectural statement. The facades on the new towers are fluid, taking a traditional vertical, and in a contemporary move, twisting the surface into a horizontal. This transition is full of energy, representing Myanmar’s growth and changing horizons. The aesthetic and ambition of this project will set a new benchmark for real estate development in Myanmar.
