This house is located in the surroundings of Sondrio on the Orobie Alps at about 1000 meters altitude.

The customer requests were to transform an existing ruin of bricks and concrete into a residence that has solar radiation and lighting in the living room with a view towards the bottom of the valley.

After careful analysis of the context and the possibilities in terms of exposure, the study of the sunlight, the study of technologies and the values of the mountain architecture, interpreting construction techniques and materials used in the past.

The mountain architecture is an emblematic example of sustainable architecture, using materials obtained from nature. From a formal point of view the house refers to the rural houses: the only sloping roof, completely coated by stone with no eaves. Obtaining a natural light environment, ensuring an economical energy saving, satisfying the customer’s requests.

For the most part, the inside concentrates on local craftsmanship because it represents the history of the building; using materials that reinforce concrete, natural larch, iron and wood. By thinking this way, many elements were born, such as the fireplace, table, chairs, stairs, bidet, wc, shower and sink. The same thought process also goes for the kitchenette, using two stainless steel sinks. The outside system of the bathroom is also in stainless steel.

The unit consists of a ground floor with entrance, living room, kitchen and bath where the spaces are well defined (the rupture element is the cement block) but at the same time, open and brighten the first floor composed by two bedrooms and a loft used as study.
