The name of this café inspired the designers to have a chess based theme when it came to their design concept. This design looks at the interplay between black and white.
Taking over a building of historic importance, this delicatessen offers a chance for customers to experience classic architecture with a contemporary twist. The old walls found in the building basement were kept intact and reinforced with goat’s wool and white clay, an old mason’s technique in wall building. The ground level is supported by metal structural beams designed to not destroy the building walls and foundations and draw a clear line between old and new.
