In the Making – New Social Housing Projects is the latest exhibition at the Royal Institute of British Architects. Curated by Karakusevic Carson Architects, the exhibition showcases social housing projects that have been completed for local authorities and housing associations across London.
The exhibition, which is open in the RIBA 2nd floor Gallery, explores the evolving world of public housing in Britain. It highlights the need for new thinking in the view of the current housing crisis in London and the past 40 years of neglect.
Models and working sketches shows the complex planning work involved in estate regeneration, from schemes including the Colville Estate and King’s Crescent Estate in Hackney.
Paul Karakusevic said: “This selection of recent design works explains the working processes of Karakusevic Carson Architects. Aiming to tackle the most run-down estates in London, we work with local residents and leading local authority regeneration teams to deliver a new era of design led, well-built housing that will stand the test of time.”
Several major London social housing projects will be on display alongside dwelling typologies, reflecting the exciting challenges of building good quality housing in a challenging economic climate.
