Organic foot and cycle bridge by Gottlieb Paludan Architects to provide essential link in Odense

Gottlieb Paludan Architects‘ plan has been selected by Odense City Local Authority to improve the connection between Odense city and the harbour district with a new foot and cycle bridge. The development, expected to be completed in 2015, is hoped to become a landmark for the city

By designing a simple and beautiful construction based on the natural traffic patterns, the team wishes to ensure clear and attractive functionality for all future users - pedestrians and cyclists - and to ease travel to and from the city by train.

Odense is the third largest city in Denmark. Its harbour district is expanding with homes, educational opportunities and workplaces. The bridge project will form an organic extension of the city space in a smooth, inviting motion between north and south. Under the motto 'The City in Motion', the bridge design is aimed at creating a beacon for Odense and a celebration of non-motorised traffic.

Gottlieb Paludan Architects developed this project in cooperation with ES Consult, NIRAS, Bartenbach Lichtlabor, and lighting-design artist Anita Jørgensen.
