PAR has designed new galleries for Ibid. in London and Los Angeles; a successful collaboration with both galleries completed November this year.
For Ibid. Gallery in Los Angeles, PAR developed a plan for the international gallery to expand into the historic urban fabric of the Los Angeles Arts District, a low rise area in the eastern part of the city. The neighbourhood is characterised by lofts and industrial buildings and has a recently seen the development of many newly constructed galleries, boutiques and eateries. For the Ibid. Gallery, an abandoned garage warehouse and courtyard was transformed into 12,000 sq. ft of exhibition and event space.
The team worked closely with Director of Ibid., Magnus Edensvard, preserving the original aura of the structure whilst creating a new spatial quality for the gallery. The completed design includes a reception, two large galleries, private lounge, office, archival space and service area.
Conceived as an open and flexible space, the exhibition area shows works of varied scale as well as video installations. The exterior includes an event courtyard, outdoor workspace and an outdoor lounge. Mobile furniture is used to connect the interior and exterior spaces, expanding activities outdoors.
In London, PAR worked on Ibid.'s new location in Marylebone, adapting an early 20th century townhouse into a flexible 300 sq. m gallery. The design embraces the historical character of the existing building while incorporating contemporary elements. The resulting space comprises two main exhibition galleries, office lounge, storage and service area.
