A modular design with an abundance of glazing to enhance the spectacular sea views

Located on a stunning cliff top site on Auckland’s North Shore, this house utilises the long narrow section to create a beautiful journey as it slowly reveals it surroundings. Starting at the narrow driveway, the house offers a sequence of spaces of varying intensity as the visitor moves up from the internal entry, to expansive and open spaces above, which reveal the wide and dramatic views of the Waitemata Harbour. The materials of the house reinforce the intense spaces, with white painted bagged-brick walls passing from outside to in alongside the stairways which form the central material experience of the house. The full height glazing in the living spaces and main bedroom expose the drama of the site, and allow the everchanging sea and skyscapes become major features of the experience.
