Plans have been submitted for the Astudio-designed redevelopment of Summit House in London. Should the concept be approved, the project will transform the existing Summit House building (currently used as office space) and the neighbouring Grade II listed No. 46 Worship Street to create a 80,000 sq ft commercial development.
Richard Hyams, Director of Astudio said: “These ambitious plans will transform this tired, incoherent site into dynamic, efficient and flexible office accommodation fit for today’s TMT occupiers.
"The addition of a two-storey rooftop extension, complete internal remodelling and extensive changes to the façade will deliver a new, fresh design aesthetic reflecting its low energy ethos.”
As Hyams explains, the development includes the construction of a two-storey extension at the top of the existing form, following the demolition of the original roof accommodation. Astudio also plans to reclad the development using facades that use specifically tuned shading to reflect orientation and context.
Internal organisation will be geared towards the TMT market, with a certain percentage of office units kept at affordable rates to attract start-up businesses.
Sustainable design plays a key role in this project as Summit House is being redeveloped for Low Carbon Workplace, a partnership of the Carbon Trust, Stanhope, and Threadneedle Investments that looks to design, build and manage bespoke and contemporary offices for organisations committed to eco-friendly operation. The design is targetting BREEAM Excellent.
