Emaar Properties has released early designs for Dubai Opera, a 2,000-seat performance venue destined to be the crowning glory of its latest development: The Opera District.
It is envisioned that The Opera District in Downtown Dubai will generate global exchange through a comprehensive and engaging cultural scene, supported by high-end hotels, elegant residences, a retail plaza and recreational spaces.
While an architect is yet to be announced for Dubai Opera, Emaar’s announcement of the project references traditional sailing boats of the Arabian Gulf as a point of design inspiration.
The main stage, orchestra and seating areas are said to be confined to the representative ‘bow’ of the building along with a sky garden and a number of restaurants, while the waiting areas, taxi drop-off and parking facilities are kept in the ‘hull’.
Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of Emaar Properties, said: “Dubai Opera, which is central to the new arts and lifestyle district, will be a spectacular addition to Downtown Dubai, already home to global icons such as Burj Khalifa.
"The state-of-the-art opera house and the varied lifestyle components of The Opera District will energise Dubai’s events and tourism sectors.
"With the city establishing its global reputation as an arts hub, the new development will also strengthen the ‘Dubai Art Season,’ which brings together the city’s vibrant arts initiatives.”
