Collaboration is key in the contemporary workplace. Understanding this, global integrated advertising agency Digitas (member of the Publicis Group) sought a large, flexible conference centre at the firm's New York City headquarters.
As a long-time consultant to Digitas, TPG Architecture was hired to design this 6,200 square foot space located on the 8th floor at 355 Park Avenue South. This new conference centre was designed to support everything from client presentations to staff team meetings and social gatherings.
Upon entering the space, employees are welcomed by two key amenities - a dedicated semi-circular concierge desk and a multi-purpose café. In the centre of the space, an expansive interior lounge area with casual seating areas serves as a place to collaborate or socialize.
The seating area is framed by four meeting rooms of various sizes with glass walls and interior partitions that can be folded back to create a wealth of configuration options. The conference space can be kept completely open for large social gatherings and events, or can be closed off into various private meeting spaces. When privacy is required, Texaa ceiling panels, fabric wall panels and carpet in the meeting rooms all provide important acoustic insulation.
The structural elements of the space were embraced through careful planning. A massive central column is wrapped in stainless steel mesh illuminated with programmable LEDs and video monitors were incorporated into other columns throughout the space. In addition, all HVAC for the conference centre was relocated near the entry to the space, allowing for higher open ceilings throughout the majority of the conference area.
Beyond the conference facility, TPG designed a 400,000 square foot fazed renovation of all office space over the building's 12 floors, implementing a modified Digitas workplace standard and creating new elevator lobby and café concepts for each office floor.
