A weightless interior: Rania M. Hamed creates a weightless environment that gives room to relax, think and create.

“Simplicity of form is not necessarily simplicity of experience” -Robert Morris La Coleccion Arabian ranches is a luxurious project overlooking a golf course. However the spaces, proportions and finishes did not reflect the value of the property. As interior architects, our role was to transform and repurpose the space -breathe new life into it- based on the needs of the client which were, open space, natural light and continuity of materials.

The shell of the house has been outfitted with large slabs of honed limestone and white plaster walls with warm teak accents. All openings were recycled creating oversized glass partitions to open up the house to a view of the swimming pool and garden which is positioned and proportioned in harmony with the building geometry.

The 6000 square foot villa is endowed with panoramic views of a lush golf course. The shell of the house is a seamless white canvas flooded with natural light. Floors, ceilings and walls were transformed into cubic forms joined together to create a three dimensional puzzle The hovering pieces of the puzzle displace the weight and enhance the sensation of air, light, and sound. It is the perfect setting for the display of arts and antiques, creating a mélange of global influences.

The overall feeling is minimalistic with no clutter, yet dynamic. The theme is modernism, most of the furniture is mid century pieces designed by key designers of this period. Our design intent was to create a weightless environment that gives room for a young couple to relax, think and create.
