With the nhow Berlin, the client brief wanted a hotel to celebrate the zeitgeist of modern Berlin.

Set on the Spree River, the old line between East and West Berlin, I wanted nhow hotel to connect to the rest of the world by creating a technorganic landscape of data-driven art and spaces, bridging the digital age of information and the physical and spiritual needs of visitors. Spaces in nhow are enhanced by the ever-presence of undulating, dynamic, omni-directional, and multifunctional elements.

The reception desk, a sensuous sculpture made of high gloss fiberglass with inset lighting, greets arriving guests. Similar sculptures centered in the dining room serve as both Art & Object, Form & Function, as they serve breakfast, lunch, and, when not in use at night, exist as art elements. Sheer custom curtains with a Digipop pattern act as artwork coloring the scenic view of the Spree River. Printed ceramic floor tiles provide dimension and texture, the pattern representing the transference of digital data that exists around us. Playing to modern digital needs, guests can play their own tunes from a provided iPod dock and connect their laptop to the television in the guest rooms.

The lighting can be personalized to create different preset moods: work, play and relax. In premium rooms, a curved wall divider separates the bedroom from living area. An inset television rotates within the wall for viewing at multiple vantage points in the room.

In each guest room I designed a two way mirror to hide the flat screen television when not in use. The mirror can then morph into the chrome desk cantilevered from the wall. Bathroom walls are white gradient glass allowing natural light in while still giving guests privacy.
