Jaume Plensa's contemplative sitting figure completes Studio RHE's dramatic Lido Mar

Studio RHE has now completed a stunning new addition to the popular summer venue of Porto Montenegro, a fashionable destination regularly sought by sailors and holidaymakers seeking a chic, secluded getaway on the Adriatic Coast.

The completed scheme sits at the Porto Montenegro marina development set and incorporates waterside residences and leisure facilities against the refined backdrop of mountains which meet the Adriatic Sea. A clubhouse is also onsite and offers two bars, a restaurant and various roof terraces reached by a sculptural white aluminium and glass staircase.

An 80m infinity pool is lined with a black and white mosaic in an abstract form ‘that harks back to the classic geometric designs of Givenchy’ and corresponds to the blocks of monochromatic stone which separate white-washed timber changing cabins.

In the centre of this pool is an 8m high square bronze framework which outlines the enrapturing seascape towards the Balkans. At the end of the pool is an arresting sculpture by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa, a seated figure gazing out to sea.

Studio RHE has taken care to include sustainable natural ventilation elements, explaining: “The building is designed to be permeable with excellent naturally venting and cooling. The front façade consisting of a series of 4 metre high central pivoting glass doors, which combine with a series of automatic high level pivot vents on the rear wall to allow the sea breezes to flow through.”
