Abdullaziz Mansour selected as winner of WAN's Colour in Architecture iPad contest

In parallel with the inaugural round of the WAN Colour in Architecture Award we ran a reader competition inviting you all to send us your favourite brightly-hued buildings with a few lines detailing the reasons for your choice. In return we offered an Apple iPad to one lucky contestant…

The deadline for the Colour in Architecture Award has now passed and it gives us great pleasure to announce that the winner of this competition is architect and interior designer Abdullaziz Mansour. Abdullaziz’s triumphant entry was the Umur Printing Building in Istanbul by Nevzat Sayin, a striking regeneration project which saw a dilapidated brick shell transformed into a colour-rich commercial volume.

On receiving the news that he had won, Abdullaziz told WAN:

“I am Egyptian architect with nine years of experience, I’ve spent seven years of them in Dubai as a designer; it was like a dream for all passionate architects from all around the world. After the economic crises I’ve relocated to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to work in the construction industry, I’m watching the architecture from different perspective but I’ve never lost my passion to design and thanks to your great website, actually it’s the best for me, I’m following it daily on my android mobile phone and now I’ll do that on the iPad.

“I am working in as a Project Coordinator in a leading construction company in KSA (Saudi Binladin Group), the nature of my work is to coordinate among the different disciplines for both the designer and the site management and helping to avoid any discrepancies between the design documents and the construction process.

“My favourite part of WAN is the News in Pictures section because it keeps me updated with the latest designs all over the world. I also enjoy the Jobs, Sector News and Events areas as I try to stay updated with the market needs in the Middle East.

“Thank you for all your great efforts to support architects and architecture all over the world.”
