A new innovative, flexible, off-site construction solution, five times faster to construct than traditional methods

Thru-Wall is set to revolutionise the construction industry and the way architects and clients think about Building Design. Launched in 2010, Thru-Wall is a collaborative partnership between Lakesmere and key supply chain partner Hemsec Installations, innovators in structural insulated panel technology (SIPS) providing a new innovation in OFF-SITE construction.

Thru-Wall provides a unique, modular, fast-track, lightweight and sustainable means of constructing the building envelope up to five times faster than traditional construction methods. The concept formally came about due to the incredibly tight footprint and short programme schedule of a recent project, The St Pancras Renaissance Marriot hotel, whereby the adjacent building was just 300 mm away, negating the ability to use any scaffolding for traditional construction. The panels were therefore produced completely off-site in factory controlled conditions, delivered to site complete with all windows pre-installed, then hoisted over the building and fixed/installed from inside the building.

Thru-Wall has since been developed to offer a variety of external finishes (eg. Zinc, Copper, Terracotta, Tiles etc) which can be either factory or site installed, and it comes complete with a unique, latent defect 20-year SIPS/external finish insurance cover - the only combined cover available in the UK, providing total peace of mind.

The commercial benefits of Thru-Wall are self evident, however, the most significant and valuable contribution that Thru-Wall will make to the industry is the inevitable reductions in Health & Safety incidents from using this method of construction. By taking more of the construction and installation time and labour away from sites into a cleaner, safer, off-site factory environment, improvements in Health & Safety are a given, particularly on high-rise buildings where the danger is increased. This is a real win for the industry where Health & Safety excellence is a prerequisite.
