Movie megaplex opens in The Dubai Mall

Located in The Dubai Mall, Reel Cinemas is a spectacular megaplex spread over 150,000 sq ft, with 22 screens offering seating for over 2800, making it the largest Cineplex with the most number of screens in the UAE.

The concept was to create a unique cinematic experience of unexpected Hollywood chic glamour, making this the superlative movie venue. Extensive use of mirrored surfaces and mood lighting effects using LED, optical fibre and projected light sources are employed to create drama, shimmer and sparkle in true Hollywood style. Movie promos are mounted into silvery glass panels, large format LED and plasma screens are integrated into the design to tempt cinema patrons with movie trailers.

The journey begins with a grand entry lobby soaring over two floors leading to 10 commercial halls at mid-level and to the upper levels which include Screen 22 (largest theatre at the megaplex), The Picturehouse (screening critically-acclaimed films and films from the Arab world) and the Platinum Movie Suites (ultimate movie luxury). Moving through voids via escalators, cinema patrons are transported into the magical world of movies.

Lobbies are finished with polished stone, shimmering etched metal, GRC and sculptured wall awash with dramatic mood lighting. Subtle patterns and detailing have been reinterpreted and applied using various techniques on wall panels, balustrades, carpets and furniture to give a touch of Hollywood glamour while being modern. Restrained colour palettes have been used throughout these spaces with white, black and silver accented with pops of red on the lower floors and gold on the upper levels.

Various refreshment areas, concessions and lounges are designed to complement the different cinema halls. For example, the lounges of the Platinum Movie Suites are complete with marble-clad service counters, signature furnishings and luxurious finishes in ambient lighting. The design of the Movie Suite is understated luxury with leather recliners, leather clad wall frames focusing on rich velvet drapes, accented with subtle lighting effects and custom designed plush carpeting. The colour palettes of the Suites are kept rich, with brown, gold and of course platinum tones.

The main cinemas are designed as modern interpretation of a classic cinema with rich velvet drapes hanging from a curved and lit valance. LED strip lighting and gobo light projections add a dramatic yet up to the minute vibe. Four distinct colour palettes were developed using rich red, purple, aqua and blue, complemented by custom designed carpets and seating.
