The Mixed Use development project at Zhaoqing is located adjacent to Xijiang River along the central axis of the city. Apart from being an important resource that irrigates the city, the river is also a landmark streetscape that visitors easily identify upon entrance. Human activities flourish on both sides of the river, with a lot of shops along the street.

The programme is to renew the area that was once occupied by old housing into a multi-purpose entertainment and hospitality complex. The core of the development is a 5 star 42,000 sq m hotel enjoying an unchallenged view of the river whilst the project also includes saunas, 4 museums, a 43,000 sq m indoor mall and a 23,000sq m outdoor mall. To establish a connection with the residents of the vicinity, the hotel is designed to be set aside from the river, leaving a public open piazza.

The design and materials chosen are deliberately conventional to suit the developer’s needs. The shopping promenade and the malls are connected by a web of interwoven curved pathways
